Stuart and Margaret Miller were, until recently, Tour Operators. Their company, Gateway to India & Asia, specialised in independent and tailor-made tours to India and other Asian countries. During their years as Travel Operators they gained a great deal of knowledge regarding traveller’s needs and aspirations. Although they retired from tour operating they were asked to commence again and now operate as Complete India & Asia. They are now also using their expertise to provide independent holiday makers with quality, self catering accommodation by renting out their home in Carcassonne.
So that you will feel completely at home during your stay in Carcassonne, everything that you expect to find in your own home is provided. (Please let us know if we have missed anything!) Basics, like cooking salt and dried herbs, are provided so that you do not need to buy a packet / jar when you only need a pinch. You are welcome to help yourself to anything you need. All we ask is that you replace anything that you finish so that the next guests to occupy the house can enjoy the same amenities.
CARCASSONNE
Located at the heart of the Toulouse-Montpellier-Barcelone triangle, at the crossroads of two major traffic roads dating back to the most ancient times, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, from the Cévennes to the Pyrénées mountain range where the Aude has its source, Carcassonne blooms in the plains of the lower valley, inviting you to walk in and out of its streets. Discover its history, its local cuisine, its wines, or simply enjoy the scenery.
From the Bastide Saint-Louis to the medieval Walled City, Carcassonne offers a wealth of monuments to visit and discover!
You can take a leisurely stroll along the streets and be charmed by the buildings and the people you'll meet along the way; or you can be accompanied by the interpretive guides from the Tourist Office, who are intent on restoring the memory of their city.
The Suburb Trivalle
The only pathway leading from the Bastide Saint-Louis to the City is the winding road, carved in stone improved by man, with a history of more than 2000years: “LA RUE TRIVALLE”. Since it was constructed, this artery has seen the changing of populations, a haven where Wisgoths, Romans, Saracens, Italians, Spaniards, and Spanish gypsies have crossed paths. It’s most beautiful houses date from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, such as the Hotel Pelletier and the Maison Montmorrency.....Behind each building, nestling in the heart of courtyards and gardens, are eighteenth century charterhouses. A popular quarter, artistic and charming, always ready to meet amongest friends, to finish with the song “A quela Trivalla....”
